Troubleshooting group policy

Isn’t life funny – every time you really need to remember something, no matter how hard you try, it just won’t click. Same in my profession. There have been cases where i could not recall a command that i just needed to troubleshoot this or that. And sometimes even if you try to google it, it takes a big effort and the correct combination of words to find what you were looking for.

In all cases i was able to get to the result, with one exception – GPresult! Just today i needed to troubleshoot a group policy related issue, and no matter how hard i tried, i just couldn’t get the command. After some futile attempts i logged in to my blog where i had a draft of this article saved.

So for future reference i can go straight to my blog and find this reminder. Long story short, in most cases all you will need is open a command line and type in:

> gpresult /r

You can find more information by typing:

> gpresult /?

or on Microsoft’s Windows XP Product Documentation website.
